Max Schrems

Privacy Activist, Lawyer and Author

Maximilian Schrems is an Austrian activist, lawyer, and author; he is also the founder of NOYB – European Center for Digital Rights, a "privacy enforcement platform" that brings data protection cases to the courts under the EU General Data Protection Regulation. Schrems first came into the spotlight when he filed a complaint to the Irish Data Commissioner that Facebook Ireland was illegally sharing his personal data with the U.S. government. The so-called "Schrems I” case eventually led to the invalidation of the Safe Harbor data-transfer agreement between the EU and U.S. Other notable cases include the 2014 lawsuit against Facebook, estimated to be the largest class action privacy suit ever brought in Europe, and multiple complaints filed under GDPR against Google, Facebook and other big tech companies. Schrems is the honorary chairman of NOYB, designed to join forces with existing organizations, resources and structures to maximize the impact of GDPR.

Bettina Palazzo

Lecturer and Business Ethics Expert

Bettina Palazzo is a business ethics consultant that helps organizations improve their integrity culture and bring a new and fresh perspective to their compliance and ethics management. She first explored business ethics in the 90s, through her academic experience. She eventually wrote her prize-winning PhD thesis on the same topic. From there, she went into strategic management consulting, quickly returning to her real passion: her own, quadrilingual consulting business. Bettina is also an esteemed university lecturer: her main goal, in her own words, is to help shape corporate cultures that make work meaningful (and fun).

Michael Will was appointed President of the State Office for Data Protection Supervision for a term of five years, starting on February 1, 2020. He began his professional career as an administrative lawyer for the Free State of Bavaria at the Government of Upper Franconia in Bayreuth in 1995; he took over the management of the Department of Public Safety and Order at the District Office of Landshut in 2002. In 2009, Michael Will was assigned the position of head of the "Data Protection" department in the Bavarian Ministry of the Interior for Sport and Integration. He also held the role of the official data protection officer and was a member of the Data Protection Commission of the Bavarian State Parliament. On behalf of the Bundesrat, he accompanied all consultations of the Council's Working Group on Data Protection and Information Exchange (DAPIX) regarding the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Lukas Staffler is a lawyer, author and researcher at the interface between theory and practice. After studying in Austria, Italy and the UK, he specialised in european cooperation in criminal matters and is currently a senior researcher at the University of Zurich (Switzerland). He is part of the Digital Business & Tech Law LLM programme at the Management Center in Innsbruck (Austria) with a focus on compliance and cybersecurity. In his practical work at the law firm AWZ Rechtsanwälte (Austria), he advises companies on legal issues of digital business, compliance and cross-border company law.

Georg Huber has 25 years of professional experience as a lawyer, being admitted to the bar in both Austria and New York. Since 1998, Georg has been a partner at the law firm GPK Pegger Kofler & Partner. In addition to IT/IP Law, his areas of expertise include Data Protection Law, Distribution and Export Law, Competition and Antitrust Law, Advertising Law, and Art Law.
Besides, Georg Huber is the author of various publications and books; teaching and lecturing activities are also part of his daily work: he has been a lecturer in law at the University of Applied Sciences (Management Center Innsbruck, MCI) for many years.
In 1997, he received the Franz-Gschnitzer-Award (University of Innsbruck) and the Walther-Kastner-Award (Association of Austrian Banks and Bankers). Anne Vogdt graduated in International Law from the Catholic University of Portugal in 2007. Since then, her focus has been mainly on ethics and compliance, with a special emphasis on anti-bribery and corruption, economic sanctions, and data protection.
After completing an LL.M. in International Legal Studies at Georgetown University in 2016, Anne took on the role of Chief Compliance Officer at German food retailer Lidl in the US for three years. On her return to Europe in early 2019, she assumed an operational leadership role within Lidl. In 2021, Anne returned to her compliance roots and began helping organizations in the US and Europe build and modernize their internal ethics, compliance, and data protection organizations and programs. She heads FREENOW's compliance and data protection departments since March 2022.

Markus Stulle studied technical cybernetics at the University of Stuttgart and holds a Ph.D. from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering/Information Technology at the Technical University of Munich. His research at TUM focused on discrete-event dynamic systems, robotics and neural networks. He works for Deloitte since April 2018. His professional focus is on Internet of Things (IoT), Cloud Services, Distributed Ledger Technologies and Cryptography, Data Science, Machine Learning, and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Currently, maintaining the privacy of company data in generative AI applications is one of the focal points of the work.

Michelle Schrey has over 12 years of experience in investment banking, corporate finance, enterprise SaaS, and digital payments. She joined DataGuard from SumUp, a globally leading digital payments company, where, as Vice President Corporate Finance, she oversaw all aspects of fundraising, investor reporting and investor relations. Prior to SumUp, Schrey was with the global investment firm Sixth Street Partners for 5 years, where she focused on investments in SaaS and payment services. During her previous tenure at Deutsche Bank in both Frankfurt and London, she conducted numerous transactions, including domestic and cross-border mergers, IPOs, and other forms of equity and debt capital market financing. Schrey holds an MSc in Finance from the London School of Economics and her Bachelor’s in Business Administration from the European Business School in Germany.

Dr. Olaf Uhlenwinkel, a physicist with a Ph.D. in neuroscience and artificial intelligence, began his career as a Systems Engineer at Sun Microsystems during the early days of the internet. He quickly rose through the ranks, transitioned to sales, and became a director. Following Sun's acquisition by Oracle, he led Oracle's "general business" division in the DACH region.
In recent years, Dr. Uhlenwinkel has overseen direct and indirect sales organizations for cloud companies, specializing in digital marketing, API-based integration, and enterprise data governance. As VP Sales at Anonos, Olaf is focused on enabling companies in the DACH region to protect their data in use and safely utilize Generative AI tools.
